McElrea Racing’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Drivers have managed to continue their great form in Round 2 of the Championship at Sandown with MR Drivers taking the top 2 podium positions in B Class..!!
Despite being attacked and spun-around by Porsche veteran Peter Fitzgerald in Race 3, Matt Campbell drove well beyond his years to win his second GT3 Cup Challenge round on the trot.
Tim Miles backed up his MR team-mate with his second podium in as many rounds. Tim took his time to get to grips with the Dandenong circuit after entertaining the crew on Thursday and Friday night.
McElrea Racing Carrera Cup Elite Driver Tony Walls used his older 2011 model GT3 Cup to gain some valuable experience at the Sandown circuit ahead of the upcoming Carrera Cup Round in September.
Had it not been for a couple of average starts he would have been challenging for an A Class podium finish.
Scott Taylor continued his improvement in form with an 11th in qualifying and a 9th in Race 3. He was even able to rearrange the front bumper of his STM Porsche on his way past team-mate Tim Miles in Race 3..!!
We are pumped to be competing our first full Australian GT Championship with Michael Hovey in his new 2011 Porsche Cup Car.
Due to a questionable decision by category management to classify Hove’s 997 GT3 in the ‘GT Trophy’ Class he will be competing against the likes of the Audi R8, Ascari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin DBRS9. Despite this handicap Hoves finished an impressive 7th in class in Sunday’s 1 Hour race.
The team will commence testing next week in preparation for the next GT3 Cup Challenge round at Mallala in April and the next Australian Carrera Cup round at Phillip Island in May.
