Meet the Team

McElrea Racing boasts an incredibly talented and experienced team of people who make us one of the most respected and well known racing service providers in Australia, New Zealand and North America.

Hayden Morris

Hayden is the dedicated 'Data Engineer' for Tim Miles in the 2022 and 2023 Porsche Carrera Cup championships.

He has an extensive racing background in Australia, New Zealand and throughout Asia and has been working closely with MR since it's inception in 2009.

Hayden started his career as a race mechanic and over a 10 year period worked is way up to V8 Supercar 'Team Manager' for Fabian Coulthard and John Bowe.

Along with his work at MR Hayden works in the marine and dent removal industries.

Louis Kapitsas

Louis has worked with MR many times in the past but joined MR ‘properly’ for the 2023 Carrera Cup Australia championship.

Louis has a vast and enviable history in race engineering starting with Super Tourers back in the early nineties. Notable achievements include the 2005 Australian Formula Ford championship with Daniel Elliot, Gold Star F3 campaigns with Aaron Caratti and Leanne Tander and 3 back to back World Time Attack titles.

When he’s away from the track he enjoys reading and spending time with his niece.

In 2023 he will be engineering Jackson Walls and Bayley Hall.

Tim McCumstie

Timmy has been around the track for almost 20 years, working with a number of high profile and championship winning V8 Supercar teams, but also grew up in the speedway pits of rural NSW.

He has been with MR since 2013 and has played an instrumental role in winning multiple championships with the team, including Matt Campbell, Jaxon Evans & Harri Jones.

Timmy would like to be known as the practical joker in the team, bringing a few laughs to the team when the time is right. You might even catch him rocking out to a few 80s ballads - what can we say... every rose has it's thorn.

Stewart Notley-Smith

'Disco Stew' started his motorsport career as a #3 V8 Supercar mechanic at DJR for the 2012 season, from there Stewart went on to Dunlop Super 2 series & Kumho series the following year.

From 2014 to the present he has been involved with Porsche Carrera Cup & Cup Challenge working with some of Australia’s most competitive teams & Drivers.

In search of sun and surf, Stewart moved from Melbourne back to the Gold Coast to join MR for 2020. This proved to be a good move as he won the 2022 Porsche Carrera Cup Mechanic of the year as Harri Jones’s #1 spanner man.

Rob Clark

‘Clarkie’ first started working with MR back in 2009 with Nathan Caratti and Bob Thorn. He is #1 mechanic on Bayley Hall's car in the 2022 & 2023 Carrera Cup championships.

Rob hails from Mildura and first got involved with racing with Neil Lowe & Ross Palmer in the late nineties. His racing resume includes multiple GT4 championship wins, multiple Asia-Pacific Rally championship wins.

He is just one of the class clowns at MR and is most proud of his resilience, will power and inability to learn from former mistakes!

He is a demon water-skier and is married to Anne with two kids, Niamh and Angus.

Marc Jones

‘Sparkle’ started in motorsport in Super Tourers back in the early nineties with Greenfield Mowers Racing. Then he progressed to the V8 Supercars championship with Paragon Motorsport and driver Cameron McLean

Starting around 2014 he ran his son Calum in a family team in go karts, Hyundai Excels then the national Toyota 86 championship, then several podiums in Group C production car racing.

When he’s away from the track he enjoys motorcycling and project cars while running a successful Ferrari workshop on the Sunshine cost.

Marc started with MR for the 2019 Carrera Cup Australia championship and takes great care of our drivers.

Shaun Simpson

Shaun joined MR in 2018 as pitcrew for our Bathurst 12hr campaign and is now a regular at MR on race weekends.

Shaun completed his apprenticeship in Cairns and was an avid go-karter, 1995 he moved to the GC to pursue a career in motorsports. He is an experienced #1 mechanic and sub assembly technician and has worked for Howard Racing in the Development Series then supercars at WPS Racing, Inta Racing then Stone Brothers Racing, Lago Racing Bathurst/Sepang 12hr and 24hr spa .

Motorsport is his number one passion but no longer in a full-time role. He is married to Sherry with two sons, Max and Hayden.

Alex Colvin

Alex started his mechanical career as a diesel mechanic working mainly on fire trucks. As he approached the end of his apprenticeship, he decided it was time to diversify a little.

After a stellar introduction to the team thanks to Marc Jones, Alex started with the MR race crew for the 2022 season.

He enjoys being a part of both the Carrera Cup Australia and Michelin Sprint Challenge championships and is looking forward to continuing that in the 2023 season.

When he's not at the track he enjoys riding his motorbikes, camping and working on his project car.

Jarom Broadhurst

Jarom was the first apprentice employed by McElrea Racing and has now completed his time. During his training, he was recognised as the Gold Coast 'Apprentice of the Year'.

Now he has a ‘proper job’ as a service consultant with our parts supplier and strategic partners, Porsche Centre Gold Coast.

Jarom is a self-motivated guy with a passion for motorsport and fitness. ‘J-Riz’ is our super spare and called on whenever we need a back up #1 mechanic in either our Porsche Carrera Cup Michelin Sprint Challenge teams.

Damien Van Twest

Damo drives for our transport provider DDS Transport Solutions and since 2018 has joined the team at tests and race weekends as a wheel & tyre manager.

Damo has been in the race car transport industry for 14 years moving a large array of cars from exotic road cars for Porsche and McLaren through to Supercars including cars for 888, DJR and Tekno.

Damo has a daughter and a son, loves his country music, playing old boys footy and can often be seen at church on a Sunday - when he’s not at a race track.

Jamie Ross

Jamie joined MR for the 2019 season and is "the tyre guy" at McElrea Racing,

In his early days he raced bikes, karts then speedway with success. In fact he won the NSW V8 Dirt Modified title in 2000. Like many promising young drivers he travelled the US extensively in search of the speedway dream.

He has also owned his own tyre centre and what he doesn’t know about tyres isn’t worth knowing, so who better to look after and manage our precious race tyres!

He is a keen traveller and proud dad to Rusty & Shelby.

Lewis Dickerson

Lewis joined MR as #1 Mechanic for Jackson Walls in 2022.

After Studying Motorsport Engineering at Brooklands College in the UK, he gained International Racing Experience in GTs, Le Mans Prototypes & Single seaters. He has enjoyed the majority of his career working at West Surrey Racing in the British Touring Car Championship and helped achieve 4 Drivers titles as #1 Mechanic to Colin Turkington.

2020 was his last year living & working in the UK before emigrating to Melbourne, Australia. While he’s away from the track he enjoys keeping active at the gym & spending time with his fiancé Ashleigh and kids Emilia & James.

Heather Plews

With many years experience in busy and diverse businesses Heather (or 'Blondie' as she is affectionately known) is perfectly suited to her role at McElrea Racing.

She loves being organised and runs a tight ship keeping all the day-to-day operations in order.

Blondie enjoys sharing coffee and great food with friends and in her spare time she breeds a tropical fish.

Melanie McElrea

Melanie handles travel, accommodation, uniforms, sponsor ride days and all extra administration duties for McElrea Racing and No Second Chance.

A background working in Airlines both in 'Engineering' and 'Passenger Marketing' and being married to Andy for what seems like a very, very long time gives Mel the experience and patience required to tie-up all the loose ends that come her way!
