After a hugely busy and successful year, the #AMRC (awesome MR crew) was looking forward to getting down to Phillip Island to (hopefully) wrap up our second major Championship of 2022 with Brett Boulton leading the Pro-Am category and only requiring three solid finishes to secure his first national Porsche title.
Our feisty young Pro drivers Aron, Lockie and Tommy were also looking to leave their mark on the championship in their debut year in a battle for 3rd in the Pro Championship. Richard Cowen was looking forward to getting experience at this high speed and daunting Grand Prix circuit.
As it turned out, race 2 was red flagged and not classified, so it was a two race weekend.
Massive congratulations to Brett on capturing the Michelin Sprint Challenge Pro-Am championship. It's awesome to have Brett follow in the large foot prints left by (previous MR drivers) Tim Miles winning the title in 2016 and Anthony Gilbertson in 2017.
Fellow Pro-Am driver Richard had a productive weekend with numerous PBs, and the highlight emerging on top after a spirited battle with championship runner-up Shahin in race 3.
Lockie did a terrific job to qualify 3rd but was punted off in race 1 causing significant damage to the rear of his car. As usual the MR crew did an outstanding job to get him back on track where he pushed through from 8th to 4th.
Aron did another very good job after qualifying down the order to push through to 4th in race 1 and 3rd in race 2 to take another podium.
Unfortunately, Tom caught a bug on Friday and was too unwell to continue the weekend after the first practise session.
This was the last race weekend for the 2022 season and to think we won two of the four Australian championships we compete in, is truly humbling. This would have never been possible without the incredible effort, energy, passion, attention to detail, late nights and amazing comradery of the awesome MR crew.
We also want to sincerely thank our drivers, their families, sponsors and supporters. With our expansion to Carrera Cup North America and full dance cards in Australian Carrera Cup and Michelin Sprint Challenge, the AMRC will have a good summer break and will be coming in hot for 2023!!
