McElrea Racing

Bathurst

The annual trek to Bathurst is one that the AMRC (awesome MR crew) always look forward to as we have won this round many times over the years with drivers like Michael Patrizi, Shae Davies, Luffy, Matty Campbell (twice) Jaxon Evans (first equal) and Cooper Murray. Despite this being our first trip to the ‘mountain with the mighty 992 Cup Cars, we were confident of continued success, but as it turned out only race 1 carried championship points.

Summary

Well what an interesting weekend! If you like rain you would have loved Bathurst 2022. Luffy was on light duties for the weekend so he could concentrate on his job driving for Walkinshaw Andretti United in the big race.

Our first race on Friday was run in wet but manageable conditions, which saw Jackson and Christian enjoy some hard-but-fair combat. Unfortunately race 2 on Saturday was called off due to torrential conditions.

On Sunday morning, race 3 had only competed 2 race aps before it race was red flagged for a car stuck in the gravel trap at the Turn 21 ‘Chase’. This didn’t help any of our drivers including Harri who had just executed a great move around the outside of O’Keeffe to steal 3rd & a potential round podium.

To say the normally awesome Bathurst 1000 weekend was anti climatic would be an understatement. Most official’s decisions were the right ones in the conditions, but the time certain finish of race 3 robbed the drivers of a race result, which was frustrating for all teams and drivers.
Fortunately we only have to wait for 3 weeks till the final round at home on the wild streets of the Gold Coast. Harri carries a 74 point championship lead into the final round and will be pushing hard to seal the deal. See you there.

Special thanks to everyone that follows and supports McElrea Racing!
