It's always fun to race at your home circuit, and never more so than at the awesome Surfers Paradise street circuit at the GC500 event. It has to be said that having breakfast at a race track while looking at the ocean is a rare treat!
Harri was carrying a healthy championship lead into this final round of the championship and we were very keen to have history repeat as it did when we wrapped-up the drivers championships with Matt Campbell in 2016 and 2018 with Jaxon Evans.
Jackson, Bayley and Christian were all keen to get experience on this brutal and unforgiving concrete canyon while Tim was also keen to finish off a tough year with a solid weekend.
What an amazing weekend – most notably for Harri's Championship win and the 3rd Porsche Australia Carrera Cup championship for MR, which is a result we are all extremely proud of. If you exclude the two years of Covid, that's 3 championships in 5 years!
In contrast to the elation for Harri, Tim and Christian had dismal weekends which fell well short of their expectations.
Bayley and Jackson both got plenty of valuable race laps and Bayley recorded the 2nd fastest lap of the final race to prove his progress. Jackson also pushed his way from his 17th qualifying position to 9th in the 3rd race.
With Harri pursuing his dream with a European career, Jackson, Bayley and Christian are all going to be strong contenders for the 2023 championship title.
Although that's a wrap on the Carrera Cup championship for 2022, we still have plenty of racing to do with Sprint Challenge round 5 at Bathurst in 2 weeks and the final round at Phillip Island 25/26 November, where Brett is leading the Pro-Am class and we would love to win a second national championship. Stay tuned!
Many thanks to the awesome MR crew, Luffy the supercoach, our drivers, their families and sponsors.
