Despite the logistical challenges getting down to the Apple Isle, it’s always exciting for our Sprint Challenge pilots to race at a Supercars event. We had tested at our home track QR a month before so were reasonably well-prepared and ready for a great weekend.
Our three Pro drivers all ended up in the wars at one stage or another over the weekend, Lockie did an excellent job to qualify on the front row less than a 10th of a second off pole, but found trouble in races 1 and 3 but most importantly had plenty of speed. Caleb got into a spot of bother in race 1 but drove forward in races 2 and 3 ending up 6th in race 3. Tom didn't qualify as well as he wanted but did a ripper job to push forward ultimately taking a podium finish in race 3.
Our Pro-Am drivers Brett and Richard both had great weekends, starting by qualifying 2nd and 3rd respectively. Brett earned himself another trophy by taking 2nd on the podium while Richard just missed the podium taking 4th for the weekend, but showing impressive improvement in his young race career.
As usual, many thanks to the MR drivers, their families, sponsors and supporters and of course the AMRC (awesome MR crew), Lethal Leigh and the Supercoach, Luffy.
Looking forward to racing at Sydney Motorsport Park in late July.
