Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Round 3

After an 8-week break from Carrera Cup racing, the awesome MR crew and drivers had tested at QR and being our home track, we were confident of a solid weekend.

This round also featured the first of three ‘endurance format’ rounds with two 45 - minute races, rather than the usual three 25 - minute Sprint races.

Like round 2 at Darwin, we had our Michelin Sprint Challenge Pro driver Daniel Quimby join Harri and Lockie, but as an added bonus we had Tim Farrell also step-up to Carrera Cup in the first of three cameo appearances at the top Porsche level in his new 992.1 Cup Car.

Harri started race 1 from grid 2 and immediately took the lead into turn 1. He pulled a handy 2 second lead before the safety car was deployed. After the restart he was chased by Love until he eased away and posted the fastest lap for the race on the penultimate lap.

Race 2 was virtually a rinse and repeat, with a clean start and leading every lap virtually unchallenged.

In qualifying Daniel did a terrific job to qualify 10th starting from row 5. He had great first lap making 3 places and running 7th until a puncture on lap 15. The awesome MR crew changed the tyre and he returned to the race in 25th. He passed plenty of cars on his way back to 14th in Pro class.

In race 2 he got another good start and was running 8th until he was knocked off the road by Wood dropping him to 24th. He then delivered an amazing comeback drive to 10th from 24th place.

Lockie started race 1 from grid 8 and had a ripper start and first lap setting into 5th position behind former team mate Osborne. After the race restarted on lap 15, he forced Osborne into a mistake at turn 3 and pounced to make a great move for 4th which he held till the end. Unfortunately, Lockies race 2 only lasted 3 corners when he was fighting over the same piece of road at turn 3 on the opening lap, resulting in a mid-pack spin and contact from a couple of other cars.

Tim did a brilliant job to qualify 7th, ahead of 3 Carrera Cup regulars, on his first ever Carrera Cup race weekend. In race 2 he was irritated to be passed by Grove but he put his head down after the safety car restart and took the position back on lap 19 and pulled away over the final 9 laps. Tim had another great race on Sunday afternoon fighting over 6th with vastly experienced Pro Am, Belford.

Summary

What looked like another couple of effortless wins for Harri was far from it and a result of the time and effort that went into Harri’s preparation and of course the meticulous preparation of our cars and chemistry between driver, engineer and team.

Lockie had a brilliant Saturday with a personal best Carrera Cup result, but was properly in the wars on Sunday. Daniel also did a terrific job and his results were not even close to what he deserved with two incidents, both out of his control. Tim had an outstanding Carrera Cup debut in Pro Am class and is looking forward to Surfers and Adelaide later in the year.

Despite only having completed 3 of the 7 rounds of the 2026 championship by late-August, the championship now gets busy with the final 4 rounds spanning a 12 week period, with the next round at The Bend 11-13 September.
