Porsche Carrera Cup Australia

Surfers Paradise Street Circuit

After a fantastic Bathurst round, the awesome MR crew arrived on the Gold Coast with plenty of momentum and an opportunity to wrap up the Pro championship with one round remaining. The Gold Coast street circuit is always one of the toughest challenges of the season, with concrete walls, the notorious beach chicane and absolutely no room for mistakes. The objective was pretty straightforward - keep all four cars out of trouble, bank some valuable points and, most importantly, give Harri the best possible opportunity to secure his third Carrera Cup Australia championship.

We also went into the weekend with the knowledge that our three prior Carrera Cup championships 2016, 2018 and 2022 have been secured at the Gold Coast, but that was when the GC500 was the final round, not the penultimate round...

2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro Champion! Harri arrived on the Gold Coast with a commanding championship lead and a golden opportunity to secure his third Carrera Cup Australia title. He was immediately on the pace, topping practice 2 before qualifying on the front row, and pole for race 2.

Race 1 was a tricky affair, with rain arriving just before the start and creating plenty of uncertainty about tyre choice. Harri got a ripper start from 2nd, grabbing the lead into turn 1 and controlled the opening stages. A safety car was required after several competitors came unstuck on the slippery surface, but Harri handled the restart brilliantly and held off Bewley to take his first Carrera Cup victory on the Gold Coast and his eighth win of the season.

Race 2 was even more challenging, with heavy rain making conditions extremely difficult around the concrete-lined street circuit. Harri started from pole but was passed by Bewley on the opening lap. Knowing that a solid result would be enough to secure the championship, he drove a very mature race and avoided any unnecessary risks. After several incidents, safety car periods and increasingly treacherous conditions, the race was eventually red-flagged, with Harri finishing 2nd. That was enough to wrap up the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championship with a round to spare.

With the championship already secured, Harri returned for race 3 and delivered another brilliant start to take the lead from Bewley. Unfortunately, the race was heavily disrupted when an incident brought out the safety car, before damage to the kerbing at the beach chicane forced officials to declare the race early. Harri was awarded the victory, completing a fantastic weekend with two wins, a 2nd and another round victory.

Securing his third Australian Carrera Cup championship, following his previous titles in 2022 and 2024, is an extraordinary achievement and a brilliant reward for Harri, his supporters and the entire MR crew!

After his outstanding breakthrough race victory and first Carrera Cup round podium at Bathurst, Lockie arrived at Surfers Paradise with plenty of momentum. The Gold Coast street circuit is a completely different challenge to Mount Panorama, and with the field so competitive, qualifying was always going to be critical.

Lockie showed speed during Friday practice, finishing 8th in the second session, just 0.59 seconds from the fastest time. Unfortunately qualifying proved frustrating, with Lockie landing awkwardly off the famous kerbs at the beach chicane, ending up 20th on the grid for race 1. Race 1 was an excellent recovery drive. With light rain creating some extremely slippery sections of the circuit, Lockie showed terrific racecraft and maturity, gaining an impressive ten positions to finish 10th outright.

Sunday brought even more difficult weather, with the second race run in very wet conditions and eventually stopped early due to safety concerns so opportunities to make progress were limited by the lack of green-flag running.

In race 3 Lockie was again right in the thick of the Pro field, bringing the Club LBR Porsche home in a solid 7th position after another heavily interrupted race. Although the weekend didn't deliver the same silverware as Bathurst, Lockie's recovery from a difficult qualifying session and ability to stay out of trouble on such an unforgiving circuit were great positives. Another valuable weekend of experience for Lockie, who continues to show why he is one of the exciting young talents in Australian Porsche racing.

Daniel arrived on the Gold Coast determined to continue his strong development in Carrera Cup, and he certainly made an impression in qualifying! After showing encouraging pace in practice, Daniel produced two outstanding laps to qualify 4th outright for race 1 and race 2!

Unfortunately race 1 got off to a frustrating start when Daniel stalled on the grid, dropping him to the rear of the field. It was an incredibly disappointing setback after such a strong qualifying performance, particularly on a circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult. With rain creating some very tricky conditions and several safety car interruptions, Daniel had limited opportunities to recover and eventually finished 13th after a 25-second penalty.

Race 2 provided a much more encouraging result. With heavy rain making the circuit extremely slippery, Daniel concentrated on keeping out of trouble and brought the car home in an excellent 7th position, banking some valuable championship points and demonstrating plenty of maturity in very difficult conditions.

Sadly, race 3 brought another dose of bad luck. Daniel was involved in a first-lap incident at turn 12 when a shit move from Dylan O'Keeffe sent his Porsche into the inside wall creating substantial damage to the front of his car. A very frustrating end to what had promised to be a breakthrough weekend, but Daniel should take enormous confidence from his qualifying performance and excellent result in the wet second race. Qualifying on the second row of the grid against some of the best Porsche drivers in the country was a brilliant achievement and another important step forward in his development.

After gaining valuable experience during his previous Carrera Cup appearance at QR in August, Tim returned to the Carrera Cup grid for another crack at Australia's premier one-make Porsche championship, taking on the notoriously unforgiving Surfers Paradise street circuit. With nine Pro-Am competitors entered and some extremely experienced drivers in the field, it was always going to be a tough assignment.

Tim made steady progress throughout Friday's two practice sessions, getting to grips with the bumps, kerbs and braking zones that make this circuit so challenging. In qualifying he set the 6th fastest Pro-Am time, putting himself in a position to fight for a strong result.

In race 1 Tim did a great job to avoid the drama and make his way forward as other drivers struck trouble. He brought the car home 15th outright and an excellent 4th in Pro-Am, making up two class positions from his qualifying result. A very encouraging drive in difficult conditions!

Sunday provided another huge challenge, with heavy rain making the morning race treacherous and significantly reducing the amount of green-flag running. The final race was also shortened following an early accident and subsequent damage to the beach chicane kerbing. While extremely frustrated by the lack of actual racing laps on Sunday, Tim continued to gain valuable experience at this level, particularly in the unpredictable conditions that made the Gold Coast such a difficult event.

Summary

What an absolutely incredible weekend for the awesome MR crew on the streets of Surfers Paradise! The standout achievement was undoubtedly Harri securing his third and MR's fourth Porsche Carrera Cup Australia championship with a round still remaining. This is an appropriate reward for the hard work, dedication and commitment of everyone involved at MR, and Harri's sponsor program, including myconstruct.

Lockie also had plenty to be proud of after a challenging weekend. Following his breakthrough Bathurst success, his Gold Coast event got off to a frustrating start with a difficult qualifying session. However, his brilliant recovery from 20th to 10th in race 1 showed plenty of determination and racecraft. He followed that up with a solid 7th in the final race, passing a total of 23 cars in three very short races.

Daniel's weekend was a case of what might have been. His brilliant 4th in qualifying for the first two races was one of the highlights of the weekend and showed just how much progress he has made throughout the year. Unfortunately, a slow start in race 1 and being punted out of race 3 meant he couldn't convert that speed into the results he deserved. His excellent 7th in the treacherous second race was a great effort, and there is no doubt he has plenty to look forward to.

Tim also continued to develop his Carrera Cup experience, with an impressive 4th in Pro-Am in race 1 providing a great reward for his efforts. Tackling the Gold Coast street circuit in constantly changing conditions is no easy task, particularly against such an experienced field, and his opening-race performance was a huge positive.

The weather and interruptions certainly made life challenging for everyone involved. Sunday's first race was stopped early due to heavy rain, while the final race was declared after damage to the beach chicane kerbing. It wasn't the weekend of uninterrupted racing anyone had hoped for, but the entire MR crew adapted brilliantly to the changing circumstances.

Winning two more races, securing another round victory and, most importantly, wrapping up the 2026 Porsche Carrera Cup Australia Pro Championship with Harri was a pretty special achievement for everyone at MR! With the drivers' championship already secured, the MR crew will now turn our attention to the final round of the season on the streets of Adelaide from 26-29 November. We still have plenty to race for and would love nothing more than to finish an outstanding season on another high.
