Porsche Carrera Cup 'Pro-Am'

David has competed in production car racing and Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge before stepping up to the PAYCE Porsche Carrera Cup Australia series for 2020.

During his motorsport career, David has won numerous races and championships, most notably the Australian Production Car Championship in 2006 in a Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo.

In 2015 and 2016, David competed successfully in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Series taking a number of pole positions and podiums. He hopes to enjoy similar success in 2020 as he embarks on his first full year in the PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia series with McElrea Racing.

When David is not racing, he can be found leading a team of corporate lawyers negotiating billion-dollar deals in his role as a mergers and acquisitions Partner and Head of Corporate at DLA Piper in Sydney, the largest law firm in the world.

David is married to Allison and has three children – Rachel-Marie (28 years), Chelsea (13 years) and Sebastian (9 years) - and a German Shepherd named Maybach!

Have you raced in any other events or categories?

David has competed in motorsport for many years. After a period in go-karts he commenced his car racing career in 1991 racing Mazda RX3s and V8 Commodores in the NSW State Championships before heading off to University to complete his Law Degree.
In 2003, David returned to racing, winning Class A (with friend and co-driver Mike Craig) in the Showroom Showdown 2 Hour Production Car race at Mount Panorama Bathurst driving a Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo.
Between 2004 and 2006, David competed in the Australian Production Car Championship, winning the national title in 2006 after taking pole position at every round and racking up 17 wins from 21 starts in the mighty XR6 Turbo (affectionately known as Toby the Turbo).
David has also competed in the Bathurst 12 hour on numerous occasions.

Any other personal interests you would like to share?

Outside of work and motorsport, it’s all spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy cycling, jet-skiing and travel.

1987 Williams Honda FW11B. Also loved the 1988 Silk Cut Jaguar XJR-9 and Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 Le Mans winning sports cars
