Porsche Carrera Cup 'Pro Class'

At just 20 years of age Matt Campbell already has an impressive list of Motorsport achievements.

He has a strong background in Formula Ford and surprised the entire Porsche community in 2014 when he won the GT3 Cup Challenge ‘B Class’ Championship in his rookie season after only five of the six rounds. He then went-on to break the outright A Class record by nearly 2.5 seconds in the final round at Phillip Island in a borrowed MY11 Porsche GT3 Cup Car winning one of the races by nearly 13 seconds against competitors in identical cars.

Matt is looking forward to the biggest season of his career contesting the 2015 Australian Porsche Carrera Cup in the MR Works car. He will also compete in the Australian GT 101 long distance events with his MR team-mate Michael Hovey.

What are your top 3 Career Highlights so far?

  • 3rd in the 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup Championship.
  • Winning my first round of Carrera Cup at Bathurst in 2015.
  • Setting the fastest ever recorded lap around Bathurst in a 650S McLaren at the 2016 Bathurst 12 Hour.

Have you raced in any other events or categories?

  • I started competing in Super Sprints in my Datsun 1200 at the age of 14 before progressing to State Level Formula Ford and then the National Formula Ford Championship in 2013.
  • I have also competed in numerous National Historic Race Meetings at both Morgan Park Raceway and Sydney Motorsport Park in a 1973 ASP Formula 2.
  • In 2014 I won the "B Class" championship in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge.
  • I have also competed in selected events in the 2014 and 2015 Australian GT Championship with Michael Hovey.

Any other personal interests you would like to share?

  • Racing Simulators and cycling.

What are your favourite motorsport moments?

  • Holding all 3 lap records at Bathurst for practice, qualifying and racing.
  • Winning the 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup Round on the Gold Coast with family and friends.

What is your all-time favourite race car?

  • My first race car "Daisy", a yellow 1971 Datsun 1200 Coupe which I still compete in to this day.

What is your favourite race circuit?

  • Morgan Park Raceway. This is my local race track where I learned to drive.
